teaching English in Budapest, Hungary
Angol Tanulás: English Learning directory - Hungarian
website ( some English links )
The lap.hu "franchise" is part of a Hungarian network
which assigns editors to edit their own set of listings for a subject.
This particular page is a set of very useful links on the topic
of learning English, for both teachers and students. If you follow
the "társlapok" links to other lap.hu sites, you'll
be able to learn a lot of the Hungarian English Language school
scene. With the only catch that it's in Hungarian for the most part...
even if it leads to websites that offer an English version, you
won't know until you go there.
Est.hu English Movie screenings - English
website
The title tells it all, this page is for English speakers who wish
to go to see a movie with its original sound. Actually there's a
lot of such screenings in Budapest, as most of the movies are shown
both dubbed and subtitled, sometimes even in the same cinema. As
the article in the English Teaching Program points out, this isn't
only for recreational purposes. Watching something really current
and really popular in its original language can help spark discussions
which are most likely of interest to the students as well, helping
to keep up their effort in trying to lead a conversation.
English-Hungarian-English online dictionary - English
website - Hungarian
website
The best known free online dictionary SZOTAR.SZTAKI.HU, with limited
understanding of current English, but a great "classic"
resource none the less. It shows two sets of results in case the
main dictionary didn't have any words to share with you, and is
a great tool, or at least it's still the best. It's hosted now by
one of the largest networks out there, Origo, which is actually
of T-Online, which is T-Com.
Tower Language School - Online tests - Hungarian
website
This language school has been listed before, but if you look closely,
there's a "tesztek" ( tests ) link near the top right
corner. It leads to English only skill tests, which are fully automated,
and anyone can take them, online, anytime. A nice tool from Tower
Language School, although keep in mind that you should have your
own such tests at hand, and not rely on others' work too much.
Bonus Language School - Downloadable exams, tests - Hungarian
website
Bonus Language School offers a wide range of downloadable tests
and exams from City & Guild, ITK and Trinity, along with a couple
of other, in-house methods.
British Council - WebEnglish, free teaching materials - English
website
A VAST collection of free teaching materials, methods, resources
online, hosted by the WebEnglish project of the British Council...
which is ceasing all other English teaching activities as of fall,
2007. Perhaps this shift is not so fortunate for those who worked
or wished to work for/with them in Budapest, but their collection
( a free resource ) will surely come handy to just about anyone
teaching English.
